Formula 1 FanCast: Hamilton Reigns in Spa - Formula1FanCast 010

Lewis Hamilton survived a late scare to win the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull's Mark Webber. Hamilton towards the end of the race went onto the gravel and was millimetres away from touching the wall whilst the rain was teeming down.

Webber made a poor start on race day but recovered well to finish second. It was yet another case of a Red Bull being on pole and not being able to capitalise.

Renault's Robert Kubica had a stellar weekend and the Pole came home in third. Had Kubica not made a mistake in the second round of pit stops, then he may have finished the race in second.

Mercedes GP had a decent weekend considering Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher were way down the grid in qualifying. Both drivers finished sixth and seventh to cap off a satisfactory day for the team.

Force India celebrated another double points finish with Adrian Sutil finishing in a superb fifth place and Tonio Liuzzi coming home in tenth. It was a much needed result for Liuzzi and he will be looking to build on his tenth place finish at the next Grand Prix at Monza.

The boys discuss the 2-0 defeat of a typically attritional Stoke, applaud some top performances by Ashley Cole, Florent Malouda, Mikel, John Terry and Alex, and ponder the forthcoming challenges of the Carling Cup and Champions League.

No 6-0 this week, so we’ll just have to be satisfied with 32 league goals without reply in our last 7 games. The salient point being no goals conceded…seven clean sheets!

As always it was a battle against Stoke, but even with Super Frank missing a penalty and then limping off, we ran out comfortable winners to leave us the only unbeaten team in the league with the small matter of a plus 14 goal difference. That’s why we’re champions!!

Chelsea’s passing and movement gets glowing praise from the FanCast crew. It’s just like watching Playstation football!! Thankfully, Super Frank and JT seem to have got injured just at the right time with international week coming up so will be better for the rest.

We have our usual awards for the Man of the Match; Chant of the Match; Celery and Guinness moments. Also as it’s the end of the month we’ll be nominating our Goal of the month and player of the month.

The boys also have a look at the forthcoming Carling Cup and Champions League where we will be reacquainted with the delights of Slovakia, the bad trip of the Luzhniky stadium and Didier Deschamps at Marseille.

A song for Obi in “We’re out to show the World the way to Sing” is followed, as ever, by the Dr donning his white coat and stethoscope to answer your questions in Dear Mart and a very grumpy Chidge reading out the best posts from the website and facebook group in “You’re on CFFC”…

We find out why he stayed at the club he still loves for seven years, despite many offers to leave. Henrik recalls returning to Glasgow with Barcelona and gives an interesting insight into what the Spanish giants thought about having to play at Celtic Park on a European night from the visitors dressing room perspective. It’s good to see Chelsea picking up where they left off last season and indeed good to see the Chelsea FanCast crew picking up where they left off last season – by drinking themselves silly all day as first day of the season excitement well and truly got to them!!

Inspite of being woefully short of both match fitness and sharpness, the Boys in Blue made very short work of Robbie Di Matteo’s West Brom and dished out a bit of a 6-0 tonking. Oh it’s good to be back!! Drogba gets a hat-trick to take him above Jimmy Greaves in the all-time Chelsea scoring table, and Malouda, Anelka and Cole all put in good performances. Unsurprisingly they figure in the FanCast’s Man of the Match and Guinness awards. But what or whom will get the Celery and Chant of the Match awards…

Turning to the latest Chelsea news, we all have a laugh at Joe Cole seeing Red and Bruce Buck taking the mick out of them; applaud Malouda for being one of the people; find out why our very own Blues Brother Chris Norman was on Sky News and Chidge and Dr Mart have a major rant about the appalling lack of food in the Gate 17 bar.

But it is not all beer and skittles this week as Jamie tells about the hardships that faced the team on it’s rise from the politically torn Nairobi of today. The discussion then develops as the lads discuss other movies made by Jamie and his team at Clover Films as they tackle the very difficult issues in the political arena of the modern world. The SFL got going with a bang at the weekend, and as always we have no shortage of talking points: from Falkirk’s shock defeat to a classic encounter in Paul Sheerin’s first match as a manager for Arbroath.

Seeing as we didn’t really do it justice thanks to the dire World Cup getting in the way, we take a fond look back at the legendary Double winning season on the show tonight picking out our favourite moments from Chelsea’s best ever season in the process. We also announce the winners of the first ever Chelsea Football FanCast awards, affectionately known as the Fannies.

With the Community Shield on Sunday, the Rollercoaster ride that it supporting the Chels gets going once again. Where will it all end? We’re hoping at Wembley, winning the Cup with the Big Ears having secured the League and FA Cup too. We have a look ahead to the new season, revealing our hopes and fears and cast our eyes over the latest transfer news. We also rake over the Coles – Joe and Ashley and give what we hope will be our final words on these subjects, for good measure.

Now just because there have been no games for us to think up a few new ditties, doesn’t mean we haven’t got a couple of new songs for “We’re out to show the world the way to sing”. We’ll be giving an airing to a couple of them that may or may not be sung on the terraces this season. All will be revealed.

Hi everyone and a very warm welcome to a new season of The Terrace - great to have you back with us.

With many facets of Scottish football already up and running we will be hitting the ground running with a health check on our teams’ performances in Europe thus far, and what we can expect this week.

What does pre-season tell us about the season to come for the clubs in the SPL?

It’s the big kick-off in the SFL, so we will have an in-depth preview of the lower leagues, including who the challengers for promotion will be, and the biggest signings in the respective divisions.

With the door of the transfer window wildly ajar there are plenty of rumours to keep us busy - we will run the rule over Jelavic, Sheridan, Cardle et al in The Rumour Mill.

Craig has been banned from offering financial advice so Alan will take over Punt of the Week, in exchange for the handing over of Where are they Now? duties.

We’ll have your emails in the briefs section of the show, and we’ll point you in the direction of our new predictions league which could win you £100!

“The Celtic Song” Podcast 55 sees us back to our usual Friday night spot as the LostBhoys catch up with Terry Dick, son of the famous Celtic Singer Glen Daly. The song is fifty years old next year and Terry takes us back to 1961 when the song was recorded and released to an audience that listened to Radio Luxemburg as the swinging sixties were starting to heat up. Our usual Celtic paranoia kicks in as Terry recounts the furor towards the Celtic Song and the Ballad of John Thompson at the time and the hostile opposition there was to the songs in the local media with calls to have it banned as it might incite violence – and you thought this was just a new thing?? We hear how the song developed and exploded into the anthem that it is today as well as how the song got embraced by the Football Club itself (despite a certain member of the board trying to have it dropped in the 1990’s). We hear how the song has turned up in many different media productions not to mention it’s most famous airing, in the tunnel at Lisbon. Formula 1 FanCast: Sweet Revenge - Formula1 FanCast 009

Red Bull's Mark Webber took the chequered flag at this years British Grand Prix to claim his third victory of the season. The Aussie was reeling come the end of Saturday when his front wing was given to his team-mate Sebastian Vettel in qualifying. But it was Webber who came out on top in the race.

Despite problems with their upgrades, McLaren had another decent weekend with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button finishing the race second and fourth. Button who qualified 14th put in another impressive drive to finish in the top four.

Mercedes GP had a much better weekend with Nico Rosberg finishing the race in third. Although Michael Schumacher could only manage ninth both Rosberg and Schumacher made it into Q3 in qualifying.

Ferrari had yet another weekend to forget with both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa finishing outside the points. It was a weekend that promised so much after Alonso qualified 3rd and Massa qualified 7th. But it was not to be.

Both Williams and Sauber have enjoyed a recent surge in form. Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenburg finished in the points and Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi came home in a superb sixth place. The midfield battle is certainly hotting up.
